When it's just one person at work, it's tempting to let it take over life. Instead, follow these tips to find balance in life so it doesn't pass by.

The life of a self-employed individual can be exhilarating, but it can also become an obsession, taking away any chance of a social life. Finding balance is important to keeping yourself on track and avoiding burnout.

Work in Working Out

One very important thing to make time for is exercise. Getting lots of physical activity allows a chance to clear your mind, enjoy some time outdoors and keep weight under control. It also allows for more focus once the exercise is over and desk time starts again.

It doesn't have to be intense, but experts recommend at least a half an hour of cardiovascular activity each day. You can fill that time by going for a walk or run, or hitting the local gym, getting in a kayak, cycling or swimming. The possibilities are endless, and making time for exercise serves people well over the long haul, keeping body, and business, strong.

Make Time for Face Time

Sitting alone in a cave of an office all day isn't so good for anyone, so make it a priority to see other people. Taking clients to lunch, meeting up with friends after work for a drink or making weekend dates with a spouse or friends is a good way to integrate lots of social interaction into the routine. Then, when it's back to the cave of an office, it's easy to be more focused and recharged.

Compartmentalize The Work

It's important to take time off from work, which can be tough if you work at home or spend a lot of time on the computer. Try getting a separate e-mail address and computer at work, or leave the computer at home altogether and make time for other hobbies and relationships after work is done for the day. Although it's tough, picking a specific quitting time and sticking to it will mean more productive days. Staying refreshed and making a life outside of work is important for long-term stamina and mental health. Make it a priority, and it'll pay off over time.

Achieving work-life balance is one of the most important, and difficult, things for a business owner to do. Start enforcing rules to develop outside hobbies and activities, and happier and more productive days are right around the corner.
