  • Travel Agent. With an average salary of $32,122, travel agents aren’t doing too shabby for self employment. These professionals are charged with the task of booking flights, hotel rooms and other travel arrangements for vacationers, business travelers and others who might wish to take a trip. The tools of the trade include high-speed Internet, land and cell phone lines and working knowledge of popular vacation destinations.

  • Graphic Designer. An average graphic designer might make around $40,117, which is no small sum in the work at home job market. Graphic designers know how to use paper-based and computer programs to create stunning visual images which can be mass-produced by companies who want their own emblems, logos, badges, etc. An artistic eye and strong doses of creativity are needed traits among graphic designers.

  • Technical Writer. Freelance technical writing isn’t often about creating popular content for Internet audiences - it’s a hard-core world of specs, reviewing, comparing and explaining, all set to the strains of techno babble. Professionals who have a working knowledge of the technical details of any subject (from cars to lighting) could potentially become tech writers, earning around $42,520 annually.

  • Financial Planner. Though all finance-related professions have taken a hit, there’s still a world of money-making opportunity out there for work at home professionals in the finance business. Financial planners make around $59,458 a year by helping others plan for college education, retirement and other important long-term goals.

  • Software Engineer. Work at home software engineers average one of the highest self employed salaries, at $71,149. Software engineers have advanced degrees in programming and related fields. It is their task to create computer and electronic programs that make the modern world work. Work at home software engineers are well-versed in working with computers.
