Is This Another Self Employment Scam?

Make up to $1,000 per day with rebate processing jobs! Sure, it sounds wonderful...but is it legitimate? Can anyone work at home with rebate processing, or is it a scam?

Work at home with rebate processing jobs! Make tons of money without spending a lot of time! Online ads, emails and Web sites scream these promises with bold lettering and lots of excitement. Can freelancers really make money and create a career with this idea…or is rebate processing just another self employment scam?

The Rebate Processing Scam

So-called rebate processing jobs look great on the surface. For sending cards through the mail, work at home professionals are told they can make tons of easy money right from the comfort of their own home. Start reading between the lines, however, and often professionals learn there’s a lot more to this “job” than what meets the eye. Learn how to spot rebate processing scams to know how to focus on finding real work at home opportunities:

  • The one-time fee. Many rebate processing scams ask applicants to pay a “one-time fee” in order to receive necessary materials to get the work completed. Here’s the problem: many rebate processing scams will continue to charge the applicant’s credit card every single month, not just once.

  • Additional purchases. Another hallmark of rebate processing scams are the additional purchases. Professionals trying to use this route to work at home will find, after paying their starter fees and beginning the work, they must actually purchase products in order to take advantage of rebate money-making opportunities. Often, this requires an investment of up to $100 or more in order to receive a payment of less than $10.
Legitimate Rebate Processing Jobs at Home?

So, it’s been established that there are a lot of rebate processing scams…are there legitimate jobs in this field as well? As is the case in many matters of self employment, rebate processing is a rather standard self employment job that’s been exploited by the Internet. Yes, there are a lot of scams attached to this money-making opportunity, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t legitimate jobs available as well.

  • Rebate processing companies. Looking for legitimate work at home rebate processing jobs? Avoid positions with companies that claim to specialize in rebate processing itself. Instead, seek employment with companies and retailers that actually offer rebates. These businesses are much more likely to offer legitimate work at home for professionals who don’t want to get scammed.

  • No purchase necessary. It’s a good rule of thumb that any legitimate work at home opportunity, with very few exceptions, won’t require initial purchases to be made. Think about it. Employees who are hired at restaurants aren’t required to eat an expensive dinner before they get to start their shift for the day…so why would work at home professionals have to spend money in order to start getting paid for their efforts?
