Things don't look great for the public health care option, and that makes the future a little dimmer the self employed. Find other independent insurance options.

Working at home without health care coverage is a sad fact for many self employed professionals. Not only is individual health care insurance costly, it doesn’t often provide the same level of coverage that professionals would receive when working for a large company. Those who are in a business of one often find themselves paying high premiums for low-quality health coverage, which can create huge problems. Are there other self employment insurance options that self employed professionals should be using?

Don’t Count on the Public Health Care Option

For residents of the United States, health care is still a major monthly bill. Employees who work for an established business may have policies set up through work, wherein monthly or weekly payments are automatically subtracted from paychecks. Employees who work at home for themselves must often pay an even higher monthly amount completely out of pocket, receiving less coverage because individual policies don’t command lower group rates and better health care options.

Despite some ongoing legislation, it looks like a public health care option will no longer be an option, for the or anyone else. So…what’s left?

Self Employment Insurance Options

Looking for self employment insurance options? So is everyone else who works at home. In the United States, health care is often still too costly for entrepreneurs, small business owners and independent contractors. There are still ways to find affordable individual policies that provide good benefits, however.

  • SBSB is an organization that’s been dedicated to small business owners for four decades. Filled with information, resources and helpful health care solutions, membership with this organization can be highly beneficial for some self employed professionals.

  • The NASE, National Association for the Self Employed, can help work at home professionals and other types of entrepreneurs receive the group health care coverage rates and benefits that they deserve. Policies will still be on an individual basis, but professionals purchasing policies through the NASE can save money by receiving more affordable group rates.

  • AARP and other similar programs provide benefits and resources for working professionals who don’t have the support of a large company behind them. Often, these kinds of companies can help those who work at home receive affordable dental, vision and other types of health benefits.

Working at Home Without Health Care

No one should be without health care, and the truth is that most people don’t want to be. By searching for self employment insurance options, independent professionals can find more affordable policies…but they still won’t find any free health coverage in the United States. Until the current system is changed, the self employed are forced to pay for their own health care and insurance costs out of pocket. If nothing else, take heart in the fact that these expenses are tax-deductible as a working expense.
